I’ve built a little tool to help small charities and community groups cut out the noise of marketing crap and focus on what actually matters to them. I would love people to try it out and tell me how it can be better.
I started work on this after I wrote about being exasperated by the overwhelming and unnecessary marketing advice that these small organisations are often given.
The Little Big Plan is designed to help groups with little marketing expertise or resources to isolate the stuff that is most important for them right now. It audits their current position – who do they need to reach and are they using the right channels – and presents it back to them.
It goes a bit further, though. The tool deliberately forces them to narrow their priorities as tightly as possible so they can concentrate their limited resources on their most critical goal. So, although it asks very few questions (just four at the time of writing), they can be quite challenging and should prompt internal discussion and decisions.
The Little Big Plan can also present supplementary information or suggestions based on any combination of answers. For example, if someone selects 1a, 2b, 3d, and 4c, they may see different supplementary information than if they had selected differently. And these combinations don’t have to be from all of the questions; for example: specific supplementary information can be presented if someone selects 2b and 3a, regardless of what they selected at questions 1 and 4. I have only written one of these so far (and only partially), but they will grow.
I am currently doing this on my own and in my own time, so I would love to know if it’s worth continuing with. Have a look, tell me what you think – and don’t hesitate to share it if you like it!
If you think this is worth continuing with, please consider making a small donation towards its development. (I’m not earning at the moment and there are hosting costs and hot chocolates to pay for!)
Thank you!
